Low-stretch bandages
are a key component in the reduction and management of swelling.
Low-stretch compression bandages are specifically designed to
provide both compression and resistance to help reduce swelling
and stabilize the affected area. Unlike the bandages used for
athletic-related injuries and consist of primarily elastic, low-stretch bandages are made of 100% cotton and specifically used for
compression in the management of edema, lymphedema, and venous
insufficiency. Low-stretch bandages provide both compression and
resistance using a high working, low resting pressure to stretch
thereby increasing venous and lymphatic return. The series of
bandages are generally used in preparation for the measuring and
fitting of a custom compression garment as they help reduce
swelling and stabilize the size of the limb to ensure comfort and
fit.
